In K+1, we have been continuing with our movement game called "Statues." We also practiced singing solos in games such as "Charlie Over the Ocean." In first grade, we practiced singing the "Star Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America."
In Grade 2, we started practicing note reading through a jeopardy style game. We learned how to name notes and how to tell if a note is on a line or space. In Grade 3, we have started to earn our yellow and orange belts. We have been making lots of great practice on the recorders the last few weeks. In Grades 4 and 5 this week, we learned the cup game. This involves learning a tricky rhythm pattern on a cup. We worked individually and as partners. In Grade 5, we are continuing to practice our play songs! -Mr. Ferreira
In Grade 5, we are continuing our play practice and we are starting to sing our parts in music class. It is great to see how they much they have been coming along!

In Grade 3, we are testing for our white and yellow belts and had a chance to take a look at the orange belt song! In Grade 4, we played a more difficult version of the game we played last week. This week's activity introduced sixteenth notes. In Grade 3, we have started trying to earn our white belt for our first song "Hot Cross Buns." With the remaining time at the end, we started the yellow belt, "Fais Do Do." In Grade 2, we learned about quarter notes, eighth notes, and sixteenth notes. We played a rhythm game using these rhythms to get some extra practice. In Grades K-1, we learned two new games. We first learned "Bow Wow Wow," which is a fun singing game that also uses hand motions. After we learned a circle game called, "Dinah." This is a great game with a catchy tune that we had a lot of fun with this week. -Mr. Ferreira In Grade 5, we are continuing to listen and we are starting to get comfortable with all the songs in the play. Next week, we will start trying to learn them!
In Grade 4, we played a game called "Mystery Message Game." This is an activity like hangman and relies on listening skills and being able to differentiate rhythms and high and low notes. In Grade 3, we are finishing up practicing for our White Belt and we will be able to start earning the first belt next week. In Grades K-2, we did two movement activities, one called "Bubbles" and one called "The Flight of the Bumblebee." We ended with "Old King Glory" and rhythm repeating on our hand drums. -Mr. Ferreira In Grade 5, we have officially started the play! We spent music this week listening to the play so we could hear what it sounded like. Next week we will start learning all the songs for the play.
In Grades K-4, we are continuing to work on our sense of rhythm and our ability to echo back played rhythms through our game called, "Poison Rhythm." In Grades K-2, we re-learned our song "Grizzly Bear" and then learned a new way to play the game this week! -Mr. Ferreira In Grades 3-5, we learned a new rhythm game called "Poison Rhythm." Using our hand drums, we tested our memory skills by trying to remember a rhythm we referred to as the "Poison Rhythm." Everytime I played a pattern on my hand drum, the students echoed it on theirs. However, whenever I played the poison rhythm, the students had to freeze and not repeat that pattern. If they did repeat it, they would be out and their partner would take their spot. Eventually we added more and more poison rhythms, so by the end we had three rhythms we had to watch out for and not repeat.
In Grades K-2, we played a similar rhythm game to "Poison Rhythm," however, in this version, we did not add more than one rhythm at a time. -Mr. Ferreira In all grades, we are finishing up with our Holiday Concert prep and we are excited to show what we've been working on, on the 23rd! Grades 4 and 5 practiced "Frosty the Snowman" on the xylophones.
Next week, as we wrap up the Winter Concert, we will be watching a portion of the Nutcracker! -Mr. Ferreira In all grades, we are continuing to practice our xylophone skills.
Grades 1-5 learned how to play "Deck the Halls" to practice matching notes from the board, and bringing them to our instruments. In Kindergarten, we reviewed the correct way to use the xylophones and we are starting to get used to performing with mallets. We have been continuing our Winter Concert preparation and we are excited to show what we have been working on! -Mr. Ferreira In all grades this week, we have started out xylophone unit and we are exploring different ways to perform on them.

In Kindergarten, we are working on keeping rhythm on the xylophones and learned how to properly use them this week. All grades are continuing to practice their Holiday Concert songs! -Mr. Ferreira |
